Nutrition & Dietetic Service

Dietitians help to promote nutritional well-being, treat disease and prevent nutrition related problems. 

Dietitians are registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC).  This is an indication that advice from a dietitian is practical, safe and based on current scientific evidence.

Dietitians:

  • Translate nutrition science into practical information about food

  • Are qualified to treat a range of medical conditions with dietary therapy

  • Advise on healthy eating for all ages, ethnic groups and socio-economic groups

  • Develop and deliver a wide range of nutrition training programmes for healthcare professionals and local authority staff

  • Have a key role to play in developing and implementing healthy eating programmes in partnership with local agencies or local authority and other healthcare professionals to achieve local and national health targets and agendas, e.g. Hungry for Success and Eat Well to Play Well developed for use in nurseries

 Dietitians work in:

  • Hospitals

  • Health Centres and Clinics

  • Schools and Nurseries

  • Care Homes and Patient’s own home

Dietitians work with children and adults who require nutritional advice for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Diabetes

  • Weight Management

  • Heart Disease

  • Digestive Disorders, including Coeliac, constipations, IBS

  • Food Allergies

  • Nutrient Deficiency

  • Failure to Thrive and Nutritional Support

  • Eating Disorders
