ACES, A NEW HEALTHY EATING AND ACTIVITY CLUB FOR EAST DUNBARTONSHIRE
ACES is a new healthy eating activity club for young people ages 5 – 15 and their families. It is being launched at the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival on Sunday 30 August.
The aim of ACES is to help children and young people, with their families, to either lose weight or not to gain further weight. The Service will focus on children and young people who most exceed their healthy weight.
The Club will be based on one East Dunbartonshire Leisure Centres. The programme will consist of 12 weekly sessions incorporating fun, interactive healthy eating, physical activity and behaviour change support activities. All sessions will be delivered by lifestyle coaches employed by East Dunbartonshire Council. The session will be tailored to reflect gender, age and physical ability.
ACES is up and running in Glasgow, and the initial feedback from parents and children is encouraging:
"Helping to show us to be more active as a family"
"The diary makes you think about what you are having".to eat
"I’m never frying food again!"
"Staff make you feel at ease and don’t judge you"
All CHP staff are asked to encourage referrals into the new service.
To register with ACES, individuals should call 0800 027 0291 with their height and weight. Following an initial telephone assessment, the individual will then be given details of local groups they can join in East Dunbartonshire.
