Falls Prevention
A checklist for older people, their families and carers, to identify hazards in their home has been developed alongside a local service information resource, which provides useful information on how to remove or remedy hazards in the home.
The checklist has been developed by professionals and older people themselves, some of whom had first hand experience of falling at home. The impact of a fall can be very profound for an older person and the consequences of a fall can mean they lose self confidence, become less mobile which in turn increases the risk of another fall.
The FREE Falls Awareness Checklist and supporting information resources can be obtained below or by calling Tel: 01505 821801 / Emailing Anne.Gibson2@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.
The Community Falls Team also run exercise classes which are held on Monday mornings at the Lagoon Leisure Centre. These strength and balance exercise classes significantly reduce the risk of further falls and also contribute to strengthening bones and reduce fracture rates alongside bone health medications and diet. You can contact the team for more details on these classes on 0141 427 8311.
